The most progressive country in the South American region
The National Administration of Power Plants and Electric Transmissions (UTE), the governing body of electric transmission in Uruguay, has announced its intention to develop a Blockchain platform that supports its Smart Networks project. The project is part of the Digital Agenda 2020, through which Uruguay seeks to modernize the operation of its electrical networks, comparing itself with countries that have extensive experience in the sector and belong to the "first world" such as Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands. The announcement was revealed by Engineer Eduardo Bergerie, director of the UTE's Intelligent Network project, through a local media specialized in the energy sector.
During his presentation of the webinar ”Digital Transformation of electricity grids- Smart Grids" of the Commission for Regional Energy Integration (CIER), Bergerie presented the achievements obtained to date in the framework of the proposed plan for the Digital Agenda 2020. I note that Urugay It has more than 252,000 connected smart meters that have improved the billing quality and, in the future, could allow regional exchanges of energy surplus and certificates issued quickly, safely and immutably. Finally, Bergerie explains that 97% Uruguay's energy originates from renewable sources and I add: "We want to go one step further and do it through an international platform that allows us to make certificates and then make transactions with them."
Uruguay is one of the most progressive countries in the region within the different key sectors of the economy in which it intends to implement blockchain technology to significantly improve efficiency. During the last months, the Blockchain æternity platform has managed the traceability of cannabis and waste in tourist areas. In addition, Uruguay is creating the adequate conditions for technological development to have a significant boost in the country.
