COVID-19 information in real time

Algorand, the cryptocurrency platform that works with a "proof-of-stake" protocol, has conducted a global survey that aims to compile data and information on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic and compile it on a database open data. Global data will be updated to give a real-time report on efforts to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. The initiative is a response to the lack of real-time data that currently exists: improving the efficiency of information provision will undoubtedly give very important support to the efforts already being made to counteract the progress of the pandemic.

Respondents will not be able to change or delete published information once they share it in the public blockchain. However, users will be able to update their responses. Specifically, the application seeks that people who are not infected participate in the network and update their responses in the event that their health status changes: in this way, a real-time updated registry of all those people can be made available that are infected, those that are healthy and those that are potential positive cases of COVID-19. The information requested in the survey is relatively basic: only the person's age, sex and location will be requested.

The Algorand Foundation chief of investment, Dr. Tal Rabin, said: “Very little information comes directly from people in the community. I hope that more people around the world will respond to the questionnaires in our application so that we can collect meaningful information.
